The president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, announced the signing of historic agreements with the Russian company INSA and the American company General Electric (GE).
“These international alliances contemplate the recovery and incorporation of 7,400 megawatts (MW) to the National Electric System (SEN) over the next four years; a figure that is equivalent to approximately half of Venezuela's current generation,” he said.
“Having signed with INSA (...), to recover more than 2,400 MW, (...) It's a historic firm! The second (...), is the one we signed this week with General Electric, where for the first 24 months we will recover 1,000 MW, but in the next four years we plan to recover 4,000 MW. Imagine what it means (...)”, he explained.
In the same way, he assured that these alliances will be developed on two major fronts of work:
- Strategic alliance with INSA (Russia): Reactivation and completion of the Tocoma Hydroelectric Power Plant. The firm is considering the transfer to Venezuela of the turbines already manufactured on Russian soil, which will add up to more than 2,000 MW.
The agreement also includes the optimization of the Macagua power plant, comprehensively reinforcing the entire Bajo Caroní hydroelectric complex to reach a total of 2,400 MW recovered.
- Agreement with General Electric: A progressive four-year plan aimed at the recovery of 5,000 MW. The goal of this project is to rescue the first 1,000 MW within 24 months, and then complete the remaining 4,000 MW in the following two years.
“Electricity is the king service; water, hospitals, schools, food and agribusiness depend on it. Being able to recover the system and have megawatts available for economic growth is extraordinary news for the Venezuelan people,” said the President.
With the implementation of these alliances, the National Government aims not only to guarantee the stability and quality of supply to Venezuelan households, but also to strengthen the infrastructure necessary to leverage the nation's industrial and commercial development in the medium and long term.
