Venezuela beat Puerto Rico 84-65 in the second round of the 2026 Women's U-18 AmeriCup and secured progress to the next phase of the tournament, controlling the score for almost the entire match through a collective game that maintains their undefeated record in the group.
According to what was published by the web portal of Radio Nacional de Venezuela (RNV), the team led by Luz Vargas opened with Roberli Pérez, Astrid Inojosa, Albanys Ramírez, Alexandra Cabeza and Ángela Crespo, while the Puerto Rican team began with Mia Huckaby, Andrea Álamo, Lucianna Parrotta, Valeria Medina and Jaely De León, developing a duel that bowed early after a run of 19-1 that closed the first quarter 20-9 thanks to constant attacks on the hoop and ten recoveries consecutive.
During the second and third periods, Venezuela managed the difference by controlling the defensive rebound and actions towards the internal zone, neutralizing the responses of Parrotta and Huckaby, in addition to maintaining the offensive pace that kept the distance on the scoreboard.
In the closing, Puerto Rican pressure was contained due to the successes from the perimeter and the management of the possessions, which allowed the rotation to be completed with the entry of reserve players and to secure the result without altering the dominance shown during the match.
On the individual level, Mezharith Beleño led the scoring with twenty-eight points, seven rebounds and two assists coming off the bench, while Albanys Ramírez had seventeen points and seven assists and Greidysmar Camacaro recorded eleven points and ten rebounds to complete a double-double.
Venezuela will close the group stage this Friday, June 12 at 5:00 p.m., Venezuelan time, against Canada at the Inforum Irapuato, a meeting that will define the first place in the area.
