Thousands of Venezuelan citizens and scientists are participating in a new edition of Global Big Day with the objective of surpassing the historic mark of 889 species reached last year.
This Saturday's activity integrates the massive use of mobile applications and digital platforms for recording data in real time, tools through which observers report each finding directly to the servers of the Cornell University Ornithology Laboratory, details a specialized press release.
This year's deployment is more coordinated in remote areas of the Andes and the Amazon, where the use of GPS devices and digital guides makes it easier to identify rare or migratory specimens.
The director of Birdwatching Tourism of the Táchira State Chamber of Tourism, Sergio Benítez, highlights that this initiative not only seeks numbers, but also promotes the development of an economic model based on nature tourism. The collection of accurate information allows Venezuela to appear on international scientific maps, attracting specialists from all over the world interested in the ornithological richness of the national territory.
