Venezuela sets record and collects multiple golds at the South American Youth Games

Venezuela consolidated a golden day at the Panama 2026 South American Youth Games, driven by the historic performance of Waleska Ortiz. The sprinter not only won the gold on the 400 meters flat, but she also set a new jousting record by stopping the stopwatch at 54.34 seconds. Added to this feat was the mastery of Isabel Sánchez in discus throwing and the skill of Oriana Saavedra, who defied the weather conditions to become champion in pole vaulting with a mark of 3.50 meters.
The national success extended to the weightlifting platform, where Franlys Gutiérrez was crowned monarch in the 69 kg category. Gutiérrez recorded a solid total of 190 kg, reaffirming Venezuelan hegemony in the discipline of force.
In other disciplines, the delegation added important metals to the overall medal table. María Mercedes Tablante won the silver medal in the women's singles, while Aura Ramos secured a place on the podium by winning bronze in the javelin throw, with a final record of 48.36 meters. With these results, Venezuela remains one of the main protagonists in the international youth event.
