The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yván Gil Pinto, thanked the Communist Party of Spain (PCE) for the solidarity shown to the Venezuelan people in the face of the censorship imposed on our country's cinematography.

Through his Telegram channel, Gil indicated that “the suspension of screenings of Venezuelan cinema, requested by the right wing in Spain, is not a reason for cultural and social expressions to spread strongly within all peoples.”

The Communist Party of Spain (PCE), through a statement, condemned the cancellation of the Venezuelan Film Series at the Casa de las Américas, “a decision adopted under pressure from the Madrid City Council and the Community of Madrid, led by Almeida and Ayuso. This measure, which affects a cultural cycle scheduled to begin today and for which the directors of the films to be screened on March 17, 18 and 24 had traveled to the capital, represents a clear example of the violation of freedom of expression for ideological reasons.”

The letter highlights that this action seeks to “silence the truth about Venezuela through acts of ultra-right censorship (...) The PCE defends the right to freedom of expression and cultural plurality, fundamental pillars of a democratic and just society. We cannot allow ideological and economic interests to stand in the way of access to culture and truthful information, to the detriment of the Venezuelan people and the memory of their reality.”
