The Venezuelan senior men's volleyball team is starting today on a preparation tour in Argentina, where they will play friendly matches that will serve as preparation for the Santo Domingo 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games.

During their stay in Buenos Aires, the Venezuelan delegation will follow a schedule of six friendly matches against local teams in their different categories.

The most important commitment of the national squad will be to face Argentina “A”, a first-level team in the region that is currently preparing to compete in the Volleyball Nations League (VNL), without leaving aside the competitive “B” selection.

Experience and youth

The national squad is led by the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, captain José “Chema” Carrasco, Emerson Rodríguez and Héctor Mata.

Their experience is complemented by the strength of other international players such as Jesús Gómez, Jean Herrera and Yoisbel Galeno.

Added to this experienced block is the promising generation comprised of J hon Jiménez, Ángel Matute, Hakeem Ghoues, Carlos Beroes, Luis López, Harold Lárez, Jorge Villegas, Gabriel Miguel, and the liberals Carlos Esteban Pérez and Rolando Bello.

Big goals

“This year we have two big goals. The first is the Central American and Caribbean Games, where the team is able to play for medals; and the second is the pre-Olympic and the qualifier for the world championship,” said Rubén Wolochin, coach of the national team.

The strategist stressed that although they won victories over direct rivals in 2025, it is necessary to validate those results in an official competition and not just in friendly matches.

“The group has been renewed with boys from 2005, 2006 and 2007, who are a promising group with conditions for high-level volleyball,” said the Argentine coach.

Ongoing support

The coach also thanked Minister Franklin Cardillo for his continued support and organization of the tour of Argentina, as well as for his efforts to bring in rival teams.

For his part, the captain of the national team, José “Chema” Carrasco, pointed out that this year represents a period of expectations due to the start of a new cycle led by Professor Wolochin, which includes a mix of experienced and new players.

Finally, he pointed out that this year is of vital importance for the older male sextet because of the commitments they must face.
