The national rowing team climbed to the World Cup podium for the first time in history, thanks to the second place won by Kimberlin Uzcátegui and José Guipe in the first stop of this discipline held over the weekend in Rio Guadalquivir in Seville, Spain.

The unprecedented silver medal came in the double mixed rowing, in which Germany carried the gold when it stopped the clock at 06:47.75, followed by the national team formed by Kimberlin Uzcátegui and José Guipe who left the mark of 06:58.96.

“With this performance, we surpassed the fifth place achieved in the lightweight single in Czechia 2009,” said Yoel Pérez, president of the Venezuelan Rowing Federation.

Pérez stressed that this is a great achievement for the national rowing, which this year is returning to the world cups, where it seeks to “adjust and improve the marks” with a view to the Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic to be held from July 24 to August 8 next.
