A multidisciplinary team of more than 25 Venezuelan researchers, led by the Institute of Engineering Foundation for Research and Technological Development (FIIIDT), is making progress in the design and manufacture of high-end oceanographic buoys, with the objective of strengthening technological sovereignty and the protection of aquatic spaces in the country.
These units, unlike conventional beacon buoys, have high-precision sensors capable of measuring critical parameters such as temperature, salinity, pH, wind direction and chlorophyll levels in real time, in a project aimed at transforming the monitoring of national coasts through “autonomous floating laboratories”.
The technical coordinator of the project, engineer Michelle Palacios, said that this initiative represents a commitment by the State to develop its own technology that allows us to know in depth the physical and biological behavior of our territorial waters, reports Venezolana de Televisión (VTV) on its web portal.
According to the researchers participating in this initiative, the system will allow early detection with the intention of identifying sources of pollution and changes in marine ecosystems, and also safeguards data sovereignty.
