The Executive Vice President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and Minister of Hydrocarbons, Delcy Rodríguez, commemorated this Tuesday the 50th anniversary of the First Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), held in Algiers, Algeria, on March 4, 1975.

Through his Telegram channel, Rodríguez noted that this was “a historic step in cooperation for the balance of the global energy market and the sovereignty of member states over their natural resources.”

He stressed that “the spirit of unity and energy independence of this first summit is still in force in each member state and in the harmonious consensus that we will continue to achieve in favor of international economic balance”.

This meeting reaffirmed OPEC's commitment to the stability of the oil market, the defense of fair prices for producers and the guarantee of the supply of crude oil to consumers.

For five decades, the organization has played a fundamental role in regulating oil production and defending the interests of its member countries.
