The Vice President of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, issued a strong statement condemning the attitude of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, which she accuses of acting as a “foreman” of Exxon Mobil.

In this regard, he assured the “continuity of the historical dispossession of its colonial masters of Venezuelan territory”, while reiterating that “Venezuela is consistent with its historical position of not recognizing the jurisdiction of the International Court of Justice to settle the territorial dispute over Guiana Essequiba. No process rigged by Exxon Mobil's lobbying at the UN will force Venezuela to comply with illegitimate decisions.”

Guyana has no other option but to negotiate within the framework of the Geneva Agreement, instead of seeking warmongering solutions that threaten peace in the Region.

Finally, he reiterated that “on May 25, the Venezuelan people will elect the Governor of Guayana Esequiba and its regional legislators and the National Assembly in accordance with their National Constitution. Venezuela will defend its historic rights to its sacred territory. And in national union we say every morning: the Venezuelan sun rises in the Essequibo.
