Willson Contreras hit his tenth home run of the season in the big
leagues, in the Boston Red Sox 3-1 win over the Kansas City Royals, at Kauffman Stadium.
Contreras rattled
the vola-cerca in the sixth inning, about 435 feet between left and center
field, at 110 miles per hour in starting speed, in
front of right Seth Lugo.
With this connection to the kilometer, the Venezuelan
raised his total harvest to 10 with at least 10 home runs, becoming the
eleventh Venezuelan to achieve that combination in his career as a major league,
according to the Baseball-Reference search engine, designed by the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League (LVBP).
Along with Eugenio Suárez, Contreras is the only
tricolor to register at least 10 such contests since
2016, the year in which he made his debut.
Until before Tuesday, the
initialist heads not only the home run department of the
Red Sox in the competition, but also that of Venezuelans throughout the MLB.
The right slugger plans to finish the year
with 34 hits, a figure that would shatter his individual cap of 24,
set in 2019 with the Chicago Cubs.
Contreras joined José Altuve, Carlos
González and Magglio Ordoñez among Venezuelans with 10 seasons with at least 10 home runs.
The list is headed by Miguel Cabrera who reached 18 seasons, Andrés
Galarraga (15), Bob Abreu and Salvador Pérez 13 each, Víctor Martínez 12 and Antonio
Armas and Eugenio Suárez with 11 each.
