The World Meteorological Organization (WMO ) of the United Nations (UN) confirmed that the last decade has been the hottest ever recorded. In its State of the World Climate 2025 report, the agency warns that the planet's climate system is “more out of balance than ever”.
The report places the previous year among the three warmest in history, reaching a critical temperature of 1.43 °C above pre-industrial levels (1850-1900). This figure is dangerously close to the 1.5 °C limit stipulated in the Paris international agreements.
In addition, the report highlights that extreme phenomena such as unprecedented heat waves, torrential rains and more powerful cyclones have exposed the fragility of our economies.
“The planet is being pushed to the limit; all climate indicators are on red alert,” said Antonio Guterres, UN Secretary General.
