In an
emotional encounter steeped in history, ancient identity and profound revolutionary
commitment, the governor of the state of Zulia, Luis Caldera, highlighted
the strategic and cultural importance of La Guajira, defining it
as the place “where the Homeland was born”.
During a
meeting in the context of the Pilgrimage for Peace and the Cessation of
Sanctions, from the Mara municipality, he stressed that this territory is home to the largest
indigenous population in Venezuela, with more than 560,000 brothers and sisters who
represent the essence of the original indigenous resistance.
Caldera welcomed Diosdado Cabello, Sectorial Vice President of Politics, Public
Security and Peace, and Minister of People's Power for
Internal Relations, Justice and Peace.
“You are in a land of
noble men and women, tireless workers,” he said.
The Zulian
president reviewed the immense economic capacities of the
three municipalities of the subregion (La Guajira, Almirante Padilla and Mara), pointing out
the potential in terms of fishing, mining, salt mines, oil and
agricultural production of cassava, tomatoes, fruits and the native cattle known as “Limonero”.
“Here
is the imposing Limón River and the two largest freshwater reservoirs in
Zulia, Tulé and Manuelote, which supply 70% of the state, but above all here
is Hugo Chávez. Every time you talk about La Guajira you have to talk about it,
because the Commander vindicated the original peoples,” Caldera emphasized.
He also
ratified his commitment to President Nicolás Maduro and to the consolidation
of peace, the integral security of the border territory and
productive development in the face of the criminal blockade.
The event was widely represented by the productive sectors, transport unions and church authorities. In the same way, mayors were present, together with local legislators and popular power.
