On July 7, 1975, Commander Hugo Chávez swore an oath before God and the National Pavilion to dedicate his life to the defense of the Homeland, after graduating from the Venezuelan Military Academy.

Uniformed as a Cadet with his sabre of the Liberation Army, from the Courtyard of Honor of the Venezuelan Military Academy, he received the degree of Bachelor of Military Sciences and Arts, in the area of Engineering, a terrestrial mention with the degree of Second Lieutenant in the Simón Bolívar II Promotion.

Regarding his admirable and loving vocation, he said: “I would like to be remembered as a soldier. If someone were to say: Chávez was a soldier, that would be enough.”

After graduating from the Academy, Chávez entered the Communication course at the School of Communication and Electronics of the Armed Forces.

The Commander stood out for his high grades, which earned him promotion to the rank of Lieutenant two years later. He studied the Army Medium Course on Armored Vehicles in 1979 and ranked first among all students. In 1982, he was promoted to Captain.

He also worked as a higher education teacher and traveled to Guatemala to participate in the International Course on Political Wars, in 1988. He continued his military career in the Armed Forces and in 1990 he was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel.

More than four decades ago, a young man of only 21 years old had arrived from his native Sabaneta de Barinas, to the country's capital after the dream of being a baseball player, but after passing through his beloved House of Blue Dreams —as he called it—, he ended up becoming a rebel soldier, who years later assumed the leadership of the Bolivarian Revolution.

This date marked the history of Venezuela, since it was during this stage that the young Hugo Chávez conceived the ideology that would lead him to form, to achieve a change in the social and political landscape of an entire people.
