The 21st International Book Fair of Venezuela (FILVEN) resumed its regional route in 2026 in the Portuguese state, where it opened its doors in solidarity with the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, and the first lady, Cilia Flores, who were kidnapped by North American imperialism.

The president of the National Book Center (CENAL), Raúl Cazal, who accompanied the inauguration, stressed that the people have the right to defend their sovereignty, their independence and their freedom, and they are doing so with demonstrations of joy, as is the case with the Portuguese FILVEN.

“In Portuguese, we have a great literary reserve in our youth who write and read, and who are being part of the history of this state,” he said and highlighted the distribution of the “25 for 25” collection from the Fund for Economic Culture of Mexico, aimed at readers between 15 and 30 years old and composed of authors of the Latin American Boom.

Under the motto “Reading humanizes”, the event offers book presentations, meetings with writers and activities in communities, with the participation of public publishers such as Monte Ávila, the Ayacucho Library and The Dog and the Frog, in addition to a varied artistic and cinematographic agenda run by the National Cinemateca.

During the inauguration, regional writers Francisco Merlo and Hernán Bou were honored, while local dance and artistic training groups offered cultural presentations as part of the opening of the meeting.

With this stop in Portuguesa, FILVEN adds a new destination to its journey through Guayana Esequiba, Zulia, Aragua, La Guaira, Falcón, Mérida, Lara, Nueva Esparta, Amazonas, Táchira and Sucre, as part of its national deployment to promote reading and access to books throughout the country.
