The state of La Guaira will strengthen primary health care in both rural and urban areas, with the addition of 43 doctors graduated from renowned national universities, the newspaper Úlmas Noticias reported.

This contingent of professionals, trained at the University of Health Sciences (UCS) Comandante Hugo Chávez, the National Experimental University Romulo Gallegos and the Central University of Venezuela, will begin their work starting February 1st.

Dr. Nelare Bermúdez, the state's single health authority, stressed that doctors will comply with Article 8 of the Law on the Practice of Medicine, which stipulates one year of rural service or two years of rotating internship in urban hospitals and outpatient clinics. In La Guaira, the health centers of Caruao and Carayaca will be the main destinations to comply with these regulations.

“These doctors arrive at a crucial time to reinforce medical guards and attend to points of silence in rural communities (...) we are consolidating a robust and efficient National Public Health System that responds to the needs of our people,” said Bermúdez during the welcome ceremony held at the UCS, La Guaira nucleus.

In addition, Bermúdez reported that 783 students are also being trained in the region in areas such as physiatry, dentistry, radiology, occupational therapy and comprehensive community nursing. In addition, 110 doctors specialize in pediatrics, gynecology and obstetrics, reconstructive plastic surgery, traumatology and internal medicine in key hospitals such as the Maternal and Child Hospitals of Macuto and the Peripheral of Pariata.
