77% of the inhabitants of the Gaza Strip suffer from hunger and malnutrition, according to a joint statement from the World Food Programme (WFP), the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the World Health Organization (WHO).
Agencies warn that more than 1.6 million people suffer from serious food insecurity, including more than 100,000 children and around 37,000 pregnant and nursing women, Prensa Latina reported.
The report, based on the latest analysis of the Integrated Food Security Classification in Phases (CIF), indicates that, although no area is currently in conditions of famine after the October ceasefire, the situation remains critical due to the destruction of agriculture, diseases and the collapse of livelihoods.
Organizations warn that, without sustained assistance and greater commercial access, hundreds of thousands of people could quickly return to a situation of famine. They also stress that the restrictions imposed by Israel on imports and humanitarian operations severely limit response capacity.
In this regard, they urge Israel to ensure safe and unhindered access to the entry of agricultural products, food and essential supplies.
