The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) warned in its most recent report that some 825,000 children in Sudan are at risk of suffering from severe malnutrition, in a country devastated by three years of civil war.

“No child on the planet is suffering like those in Sudan, who are at the epicenter of the greatest humanitarian catastrophe in the world today,” spokesman Ricardo Pires said at a press conference.

It also determined that more than half of the children in Um Baru, in North Darfur, suffer from hunger. High levels of starvation were also detected in Kernoi (34%) and Al Tina (20%), places where some of the inhabitants of Al Fasher have fled, since its takeover by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (FAR) in late October 2025.

“Since the fall of Al Fasher, some 127,000 people have desperately fled to those areas, where the conflict has spread, and many children are caught up in what may be the last battle for control of Darfur,” Pires added.
