As a result of the accusation filed by the Public Ministry (MP), Joel Josué Rengel Medina was sentenced to five years, two months and 10 days in prison after admitting his responsibility for the frustrated theft of a home.

According to a press release from the MP, this event occurred on October 25, 2024 inside a building located on Andrés Eloy Blanco Avenue; belonging to the municipality of Maturín, capital of the state of Monagas.

According to the investigation, during that date, the owner of the residence was notified that someone had entered the place. After a quick search, Rengel Medina was discovered in an external corridor on the left wing.

When found, Rengel Medina brought up a knife but the victim used a knife to remove it from his hand. After a brief confrontation, the homeowner reduced his attacker and immobilized him with cable segments. Later, he contacted the Monagas State Police (Polimonagas); which formed a commission to apprehend the perpetrator and leave him at the disposal of the MP.

During the preliminary hearing, the 17th Public Prosecutor's Office of Monagas confirmed the accusation against Rengel Medina for the commission of aggravated robbery to a degree of frustration and possession of a knife.

After hearing the defendant's admission of facts, the 6th Control Court in that eastern entity handed down the above-mentioned conviction against Rengel Medina and ordered his detention in the Nelson Mandela Center for the Formation of the New Man, located in the city of Maturín.
