The death toll from the earthquake in Afghanistan amounted to 2,205 and 3,640 injured, Deputy Government Spokesman Hamdullah Fitrat said.

In previous reports, Fitrat indicated 6,782 collapsed homes. The earthquake struck the regions of Kunar, Nangarhar, Laghman and Nuristan, according to a press release from the Sputnik agency.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) recorded the seismic event last Sunday at 19:17 GMT, with a magnitude of 6.0. The epicenter was located 27 kilometers east-northeast of Jalalabad, a city with more than 200,000 inhabitants. The depth was estimated at eight kilometers.
