Air contingency plan guarantees national and international connectivity after earthquakes

Venezuela's main air terminals activated an operational contingency plan with the purpose of progressively resuming commercial flights and safeguarding the country's connectivity, both nationally and internationally. This contingency measure responds to the structural and operational effects recorded at Maiquetía International Airport due to the double earthquake that occurred last June 24.

During an interview with Venezolana de Televisión (VTV), the president of the Venezuelan Association of Travel and Tourism Agencies (AVAVIT), Vicky Herrera, reported that the various airlines that regularly operated in the country's main terminal have gradually joined this emergency scheme. The union spokeswoman specified that the logistics strategy prioritized the entry of humanitarian aid equipment and supplies in its first phase, before making way for the normalization of the regular flow of passengers.

To meet user demand and ensure the mobility of the population in the face of the Maiquetia contingency, commercial operations were enabled and reinforced in several terminals in the interior of the Republic, distributed as follows:

Arturo Michelena International Airport (Carabobo): It absorbed part of the international demand by activating commercial routes to destinations such as Panama, Bogotá, Punta Cana, Madrid and Tenerife through different airlines.

José Antonio Anzoátegui International Airport (Barcelona): It maintains scheduled departures to Madrid, Bogotá, Medellín, Santo Domingo and Miami.

Santiago Mariño Caribbean International Airport (Porlamar): It serves as a direct link to terminals in Barbados, Port of Spain and Bogota.

Barquisimeto Airport (Lara): Enabled special operations to Panama with the logistical support of two airlines.

Maracaibo Airport (Zulia): Activated direct commercial flights to Panama City.

Puerto Ordaz Airport (Bolívar): It actively functions as a direct interconnecting bridge to the town of Boa Vista, in Brazil.
