ALBA categorically condemns the act of piracy and theft of an oil tanker from Venezuela (+USA)

The Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA) condemns and classifies as a vulgar act of piracy, the assault and confiscation of a Venezuelan oil tanker by the United States.

Through a statement published on its website, ALBA emphasizes that this fact constitutes a very serious violation of international law and a direct attack against the sovereignty of Venezuela.

Below is the full text of the statement:

The Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA) condemns in the most categorical way the act of vulgar piracy committed by the United States government by illegally assaulting and confiscating a Venezuelan oil tanker in the Caribbean Sea. This fact constitutes a very serious violation of international law and a direct attack on the sovereignty of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

This fact, which adds to the criminal dispossession of CITGO, reveals a plunder strategy aimed at appropriating Venezuelan energy resources, setting an extremely dangerous precedent for international legal and maritime stability. ALBA rejects this imperial aggression with absolute firmness and ratifies its total support for the people and government of Venezuela.

The Alliance demands the immediate return of the vessel and the cessation of all actions of dispossession against Venezuelan property. It also calls on multilateral, regional and global organizations to take urgent action in the face of this open violation of international law.
