The Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America - Peoples' Trade Agreement (ALBA-TCP), issued a statement this Wednesday, October 1, in which it denounces the subordination of the Dominican Republic, since it responds to the interests of Washington and describes the X Summit of the Americas as an “act of capitulation”.

The regional organization took note of the communiqué issued by the Government of the Dominican Republic, host of this summit, and interpreted it as a “public confession of a political capitulation”.

In this regard, the ALBA-TCP indicates that the communiqué “highlights its decision to subordinate the organization of the Summit to instructions from Washington”, an act that, in its opinion, “degrades the status of the host”.

Below is the full text of the statement:

ALBA-TCP ON THE X SUMMIT OF THE AMERICAS

ALBA-TCP takes note of the communiqué issued by the Government of the Dominican Republic, which highlights its decision to subordinate the organization of the Summit to instructions from Washington. This act is the public confession of a political capitulation that degrades the status of the host.

For free, sovereign and independent peoples, non-participation in an area today clearly protected by imperial interests constitutes a distinction that confirms that our independence and sovereignty place us in a different dimension, typical of free peoples, marked by dignity and alien to scenarios set up for obedience and submission.

The history of Latin America and the Caribbean is marked both by attempts at domination and by liberating deeds. Recent episodes confirm that the so-called Summit of the Americas will be inscribed as one of those sterile moments, condemned from the outset.
