The Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America - Peoples' Trade Agreement, through a statement, rejected the call made by the government of Panama to reissue the failed Lima group, “with interventionist and destabilizing intentions.”
The letter was published by the Secretary General of the Alliance, Jorge Arreaza, through his account on the social network X, in which he reaffirmed his support for the Constitutional President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro.
Below is the full text of the statement:
The member States of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America Peoples' Trade Agreement (ALBA-TCP) categorically reject the convening by the government of the Republic of Panama of an interventionist meeting to discuss the internal affairs of Venezuela, in frank violation of the sovereignty and self-determination of that sister nation.
This interventionist call seeks to reissue the failed actions of the so-called Lima Group, with identical destabilization intentions and coup goals, publicly stating that the objective of this meeting would be to “test more actions that support democracy in the sister South American country”. The ALBA-TCP stresses the importance of addressing any regional issue, as long as it is in full respect of International Law and the Charter of the United Nations, including the principle of non-intervention in the internal affairs of States.
The ALBA-TCP repudiates all actions contrary to the norms that govern the international order and invites countries, especially those in the Latin American and Caribbean region, to respect the decisions and mechanisms of each State and its legitimate institutions.
The Constitution, laws and institutions of Venezuela assure the Venezuelan people the full exercise of their sovereignty and independence. No country has the right to “test actions” that are not within the framework of respect for the self-determination of peoples.
The Bolivarian Alliance calls on the international community to reject this type of interventionist action, reaffirms its support for the Constitutional President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro Moros, who has been able to lead the nation on the path of peace in these moments of onslaught and ratifies its respect for the will of the Venezuelan people, expressed in an unobjectionable way in the presidential elections of last July 28, 2024.
