The
Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America -
Peoples' Trade Agreement (ALBA-TCP) welcomed this Tuesday the holding, on June 13, at the General Assembly of
the United Nations (UN), of the debate on the
“Elimination of unilateral extraterritorial coercive measures”,
used as an instrument of political and economic coercion.
In a statement, the regional integration mechanism reiterated its rejection of this illegal
practice that seeks to justify the aggressions perpetrated against
peoples of at least one third of the planet, who are subject to collective
punishment for political motivations.
In the same way,
ALBA-TCP welcomed the fact that, during this debate within the General Assembly,
more than two-thirds of the Organization's member States agreed in
their rejection of unilateral coercive measures, in violation of the
United Nations Charter and International Law, promoted by the United States.
Finally, the
document expresses its repudiation of any attempt at political coercion against sovereign
countries, which hinders their economic, social and political development and
undermines the dignity and security of their citizens.
