Ambassador Moncada: Veto against Palestine at the UN shows that the US is the obstacle to peace

After the United States blocked the accession of the State of Palestine as a full member of the United Nations, the former ambassador and permanent representative of Venezuela to this body, Samuel Moncada, reiterated that US imperialism is the main obstacle to peace in the Middle East.

“A historic vote in the UN Security Council. Only the US veto denies the approval of Palestine as a member state with full rights in the UN. Never before has this issue been voted on by opposition from the United States. It is clear that this country is the main obstacle to peace in the Middle East,” said Moncada.

The resolution, presented by Algeria this Thursday on behalf of the United Nations Arab Group, obtained 12 votes in favor, 2 abstentions (Switzerland and the United Kingdom) and the vote against the United States.

The draft resolution recommended to the General Assembly of the body that “the State of Palestine be admitted as a member of the United Nations”.

Spain and Ireland, for their part, defended this Thursday the possible admission and creation of a Palestinian State, as part of the solution to Israel's genocide against that people of the Middle East that in the Gaza Strip alone has caused 40,000 deaths, most of them elderly, children and women.
