The president of the Commission for Monitoring the Amnesty Law for Democratic Coexistence, Deputy Jorge Arreaza, offered this Thursday, April 16, an assessment of the application of this legal instrument, whose central objective is to break the “vicious circle of recurring conspiracies and pardons”.

Arreaza emphasized the long-term vision of this initiative. “It's about laying the foundations for a peace that can last decades in the country, overcoming political instability through justice and coexistence,” he said in a publication on the LaIguanaTV website.

The balance sheet presented shows the following statistical data: total number of requests received: 14,368 requests processed; validated requests: 11,772 files that met the initial requirements and the final judgments: 8,406 cases formally resolved by legal means.

The deputy specified that the impact of the law is reflected in the normalization of the legal situation of thousands of citizens. Of the final opinions issued to date, 96.1% correspond to people who were at large, but maintained protective measures of presentation.

In addition, Arreaza reported that, thanks to the application of this instrument, 314 people have been granted full freedom, after being held for reasons directly related to the scope of application of the law.

He assured that the Monitoring Commission ratifies its commitment to justice and the construction of a scenario of lasting peace in the country.
