This Thursday, May 14, the National Assembly (AN) accompanied the country's regional and municipal parliaments in the debate for the territorial defense of Esequiba Guiana.
In Caracas, the deputies of the Capital District and the state of Guayana Esequiba participated in the regular session of the Council of the Bolivarian Liberator Municipality of Caracas, the AN reported on its website.
The delegation of the National Parliament was led by the first vice-president of the Legislative Branch, deputy Pedro Infante, who reported that the debate took place, in parallel, in all legislative councils in the country and in 300 municipal councils.
Infante said that, despite political differences, there is agreement in the country on the protection of the territory and on the arguments presented by the president in charge of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, before the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
He also pointed out that the country must continue the discussion with a unity based on constitutional principles and the historical vision of the Venezuelan people.
During the session, the councilors unanimously approved the Agreement on Institutional Respect for the AN and the National Executive in the Integral Defense of the Territory of Guiana Esequiba, presented by Councilman Alexander Berroterán.
Representatives Jorge Fuguett, Jimmy Gudiño, Griselda Oliveros and Reny Parota also took part in the meeting.
The parliamentarians agreed that the Geneva Agreement is the only valid mechanism to resolve the dispute and rejected any attempt to impose unilateral solutions from Guyana or from external actors.
In turn, they highlighted the approval, in 2024, of the Organic Law for the Defense of Guiana Esequiba as part of the national policy aimed at serving the population and reaffirming the institutional presence in the territory.
Also present at the session were deputies Pompeyo Torrealba, Yajaira Meléndez, Alexander Aranguren, César Herrera, Africa Vargas and Dayelin Rivero. Raquel Gómez, Janitza Rondón, Oliver Guzmán, Milagros Marcano, Noris Herrera and Carmen Zerpa also attended.
To conclude, the president of the Libertador Bolivarian Municipality Council , Yazmín Campos, pledged to accompany a deployment around the capital city to inform its inhabitants about the agreements reached between the Parliament and the local government.
