The Legislative Branch unanimously approved an extension of operations for PETROPIAR, a joint venture dedicated to the exploration, extraction, collection, transport and storage of hydrocarbons in the Orinoco oil belt.
The extension of operations of PETROPIAR, based in the Simón Rodríguez municipality of the state of Anzoátegui, was authorized for 15 years for the period 2033-2047. It should be noted that this company shares ownership with Chevron (30%) and a majority of government shares (70%), through PDVSA.
The member of the Standing Committee on Energy and Petroleum, Deputy Omar Farias (PSUV/Monagas), presented the report to the Plenary of the National Parliament, where he indicated that Venezuela is about to reach the goal of one million barrels of crude oil per day.
Farias reported that, since 2008, the private company Chevron has signed agreements with the Venezuelan State through Petroleos de Venezuela, in the exercise of primary activities, for 25 years (2008-2033), within the framework of articles 33 and 34 of the Organic Law on Hydrocarbons, which allows the exploitation of oil activities, extraction of crude oil and natural gas.
He highlighted that the historical behavior of oil production, since 2015, has been decreasing due to the coercive and unilateral measures of the North American government, since Venezuela went from producing 3 million two hundred thousand barrels of crude oil a day to less than 500 thousand in the year 2021.
He emphasized that, thanks to the sovereign and independent public policies of President Nicolás Maduro, oil employees and workers have increased oil production, following imperial attacks against the Venezuelan people.
He explained that the U.S. government is ignorant of international law, the laws that govern the coexistence of humanity, and we are in complex times that will promote a new world order.
He highlighted that Venezuela has the largest oil reserves in the world, with more than 300 billion barrels in certified reserves and 197 million cubic feet of gas, which places it in eighth place in the world.
He asserted that, thanks to the Bolivarian Revolution, Venezuelans have overcome difficult times, although some actors wanted to dismember and dismantle the oil industry.
