AN authorized the appointment of Ernesto Villegas as ambassador to UNESCO

The National Assembly (AN) approved the appointment of journalist Ernesto Villegas Poljak as permanent ambassador of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

During the regular session of this Tuesday, May 5, at the presentation of the project, Deputy Adolfo Pereira, member of the Permanent Committee on Domestic Policy, presented the report to the plenary and stressed that Venezuela has been part of this multilateral body since 1946.

Venezuela's participation in UNESCO allows our country to strengthen cultural policies against illegal trafficking in goods of cultural interest,” he said.

He also recalled that, during the administration of Commander Hugo Chávez, the agency declared Venezuelan territory free of illiteracy.

Regarding Villegas' profile, the parliamentarian highlighted his career as a journalist, politician and writer. In the communication field, he highlighted that he served as president of Venezolana de Televisión (VTV), in addition to being founder and president of the newspaper Ciudad Caracas.

In his political career, the legislator mentioned that Villegas held the positions of Head of Government of the Capital District, Minister of State for the Revolutionary Transformation of Greater Caracas, Minister of Communication and Information and Minister for Culture.

In his literary facet, he highlighted that he is the author of works such as “April, Coup Adentro”, a work for which he received the National Journalism Award.
