At a press conference held this Wednesday, the state of Aragua officially presented its cycling team, which will compete on January 16 and 17 in the Women's Tour of Táchira 2026 and which is part of a sports project aimed at the development of youth talent and high-level competition in national cycling.
The Aragüeña representation is made up of 11 athletes in the youth category, who will take on the double challenge of seeking the national podium in their division and, in addition, competing against more experienced (elite) runners, during the competition that will be held on January 16 and 17, considered one of the most demanding events in the Venezuelan cycling calendar. .
According to a press release, during the meeting with the media, the vice-president of the Regional Sports Institute, Edgardo Díaz, highlighted the state's sporting aspirations and the ambitious challenge that this young national team is taking on.
“Aragua is looking for the podium in the youth category. We want to be national champions and we also aim to win the Women's Tour of Táchira. These athletes have also taken on the challenge of competing with the most experienced cyclists in the country in category A,” said Díaz.
The leader stressed that the team has a workforce of high educational value, whose ages range from 15 to 19 years, which reflects the projection and the sports development cycle that the national team is going through.
“We have a 19-year-old athlete as the oldest and runners between 15 and 16 years old among the youngest. This speaks of the importance of the process that this team is starting and the enormous challenge of facing such a big return. They are young people who deserve to be valued for their commitment and preparation,” she added.
Díaz also recognized the technical work carried out by Professor Antonio Castillo, responsible for preparing the team, highlighting the discipline and the competitive level achieved by the athletes.
“It is a serious and sustained work that has been done. We hope for a good performance, which in the youth category will translate into important results and that in the elite runners can compete with health and determination,” she concluded.
