The Foundation for the Development of Science and Technology (Fundacite) of the state of Aragua delivered INIA7 maize seeds to small producers in the Arsenal sector, located in the Mario Briceño Iragorry municipality, as part of the Scientific-Peasant Alliance promoted by the Ministry of Science and Technology (MINCYT).
The distribution of seeds benefited producers in the Arsenal Victoriosa commune and Sugarcane sector 2 and will guarantee planting on approximately 54 hectares.
The seed delivered, according to a MINCYT press release, has an agroecological treatment reinforced with trichoderma, a fungus that reduces the risk of pests and promotes the development of strong and fruitful plants, explained engineer Alicia Partidas, in charge of Fundacite's Research and Knowledge Application Department.
This biological treatment contributes to the sustainability and productivity of the crop.
“The delivery makes it possible to provide answers to the economic, political and social situation of the country, betting on Venezuela, guaranteeing food sovereignty and the sense of belonging of producers,” said engineer Yesica Guzmán, of the Foundation for Training and Innovation to Support the Agrarian Revolution (Ciara).
This initiative is the result of an alliance between institutions such as the Venezuelan Hybrid Seed Plant (Sehiveca), the Foundation for Training and Innovation to Support the Agrarian Revolution (Ciara) and the Corporation for Scientific and Technological Development (Codecyt), under the project of the Mincyt Scientific-Peasant Alliance, which aims to strengthen the production of improved and certified seeds for agroecological development in Venezuela.
