The neoliberal president of Argentina, Javier Milei, signed the veto of the University Funding Law and the Pediatric Emergency Law, confirming the “vetocracy” of his government and, according to the text, the absence of promised self-criticism after the electoral defeat in the province of Buenos Aires.

The Argentine government is already preparing to veto a third law, the distribution of National Treasury Contributions (ATN), which has the support of all 24 governors, Telesur details.

The University Funding Act, in particular, guarantees the automatic updating of the budgets of universities, university hospitals and research under the effect of inflation.

It also requires the recomposition of salaries for teachers and non-teachers and foresees improvements in the scholarship system. The official argument for the veto is that the law does not identify sources of funding, however, it is described as “fallacious” in the official gazette, since the project contemplates budgetary adjustments.
