Since the arrival of Javier Milei's far-right government in Argentina, 167 thousand 114 jobs have been lost, according to a report released this week by the Argentine Center for Political Economy (CEPA).
According to the data, although 5,632 jobs recovered in the private sector last October, since Milei took office in December 2023, 123,957 jobs were eliminated in the private sector, with industry and construction being the most affected sectors, the latter representing more than 56.3% of the total, due to the Government's decision to completely paralyze public works.
In May 2024, the economy began to grow, employment continued to decline. Despite the fact that starting in August the evolution of work and economic activity began to go in the same direction, reporting growth of 0.6% month-on-month, the Argentine economy continues at levels lower than in 2023, with a year-on-year drop of 2.7%, the report says.
