Argentina registered more than 315 thousand cases of dengue fever so far in 2024

The Argentine Ministry of Health reported that the South American nation has registered more than 315 thousand cases of dengue fever so far this year.
“Compared to other epidemic years, the current season is characterized by a greater magnitude than previous epidemic seasons: the cumulative cases up to Epidemiological Week 15 represent 3.17 times more than what was registered in the same period of the previous 2022/2023 season, and 9.1 times more than that registered in the same period of 2019/2020,” the health portfolio indicated through the National Epidemiological Bulletin (BEN).
In this regard, he noted that the highest number of cases is recorded in the central region of Argentina at 59.9%, followed by the Northeastern region with 20.4% and the Northeast with 17.8%.
According to what was published on the Xinhua website, the number of deaths so far is 238 due to dengue fever.
“Deceased cases were registered in all age groups, with the highest mortality rate among those over 80 years of age,” said the BEN, adding that the most common signs and symptoms among deceased cases with complete clinical information were “fever, headache, myalgia and arthralgia, diarrhea and abdominal pain.”
