After starting the investigation into the Argentine president in the Criptogate judicial case, at the request of federal judge María Servini, federal prosecutor Eduardo Taiano formally charged President Javier Milei with crimes of abuse of authority, influence peddling, fraud and negotiations incompatible with the public service.
According to Taiano, the investigation includes the alleged international sponsors of $LIBRA: Hayden Mark Davis and Julian Peh; the organizers of the Tech Forum 2024 event (where the link with the president would have emerged), Mauricio Gaspar Novelli and Manuel Terrones Godoy, as well as the advisor to the board of directors of the National Securities Commission (CNV), identified by possible conflicts of interest, reported the Telesur portal.
The federal prosecutor's decision took into account the complaint filed by the opposition leader, Juan Grabois, together with the deputy Itai Hagman, among other lawsuits that were drawn up and point to the leader's participation in the rapid valuation and subsequent collapse of the $LIBRA token.
“The one who makes them pays, indicted the cryptocurrency Milei for the crimes of fraud, influence peddling and negotiations incompatible with the public service. For national dignity, justice must act quickly,” Grabois said on his account on the social network X.
The judicial investigation against the president had as its precedent a complaint filed on October 17. In this case, Milei and several businessmen are blamed for running a fraudulent scheme called “rug pull” (related to attracting investment, then abruptly withdrawing capital and leaving initial investors with millions in losses).
After a week of the scandalous event, the Federal Attorney's Office 3 requested reports from the Central Bank, the National Securities Commission and Google. The prosecutor also had the collaboration of the Tax Unit Specialized in Cybercrime, in order to preserve and recover relevant digital evidence.
While the Government is experiencing the biggest crisis since the inauguration of Milei, representatives of the Argentine left demand that the head of state and the officials involved go to Congress to give explanations in a session that they demand be broadcast on national channels.
