The neoliberal Government of Argentina made official the implementation of a new schedule of increases for public transport services operating in the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires (AMBA).
The measure, which will take effect starting next Monday, establishes differentiated monthly increases both for bus lines under national jurisdiction and for the seven metropolitan train lines that connect the region.
For the collective sector, an update path of 2% per month has been defined, which will be applied during the months of May, June and July. This adjustment seeks to accompany the operating cost structure of the provider companies, avoiding generating an abrupt one-time economic impact on the pockets of passengers who use the service on a daily basis.
For its part, the railway system will experience the most significant changes within this new fare scheme. The Government has ordered a series of increases that begin with a jump of 18% in May, followed by consecutive monthly adjustments that will last until September, with the aim of reducing the weight of state subsidies in the sector.
By the end of the schedule in September, the minimum train fare will have accumulated a substantial adjustment compared to current values, aligning prices with the current fiscal consolidation policy.
