The General Confederation of Labor (CGT), the largest trade union federation in Argentina, launched a proposal to call for a general strike against the Government of Javier Milei and placed next March 20 to define the date of this work strike.
In a meeting with social movements, Héctor Daer, one of the general secretaries of the CGT, anticipated that the board of directors agreed by consensus to go on strike for 24 hours before April 10” and invited social movements to join.
The proposal was launched in the midst of the repudiation by trade union and social sectors of the police repression unleashed this Wednesday against a mobilization in Buenos Aires in support of retirees who protest every Wednesday in front of the Parliament for the poor pensions they receive.
Daer not only questioned the Government for the repression of the protest but also for “stepping on salaries” so that they do not grow above inflation, for “destroying” Argentine industry and causing layoffs and for trying to contract more debt with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Several sectors this Thursday expressed their repudiation of the police repression against the mobilization of support for the demands of better retirees that ended this Wednesday with more than a hundred detainees and nearly 50 injured.
