AgroAlba is an initiative so that the countries that make up the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA) can make their waters and lands available to the regional block to boost food production and meet demand in the region, said Jorge Arreaza, executive secretary of ALBA-TCP.
“We have extraordinary potential to guarantee food security and food sovereignty through ALBA, something that transcends States and goes to the region, even inviting countries in the Caribbean region of South and Central America and countries in Africa that have joined the initiative,” he said during a press conference to provide details on the development of the first AgroAlba fair.
In this regard, he explained that the ten nations that make up ALBA have 58.5 million inhabitants; 2 million 258 thousand square kilometers of land; 8,315 km of coastline; 243 thousand 588 of the continental shelf and more than one million of exclusive economic zones.
He also assured that this initiative will allow, for example, countries such as Saint Vincent and the Grenadines that do not have land to cultivate to invest in Venezuela to use spaces and produce food for their country and even export.
In the same way, he pointed out that within the framework of AgroAlba it is also possible for joint fleets to be built between the countries of the block for the exploitation of fishing species in their waters, according to what is agreed. He also stressed that this economic synergy will allow for a technological and knowledge exchange between nations that will be beneficial to all countries participating in this initiative.
On the other hand, Arreza announced that important meetings will be held during the above-mentioned exhibition to make this initiative known to countries and invite investors to participate in them.
