Arturo Michelena International Airport takes over Venezuelan air traffic

After the two powerful earthquakes recorded on June 24, the Arturo Michelena International Airport in the state of Carabobo officially became the main gateway to and from Venezuela. The terminal operates at its maximum capacity and has enabled new international routes to respond to the contingency that caused the temporary closure of the main air facility in Maiquetía, in La Guaira, as reported by the president of the Autonomous Institute of Airports of the state of Carabobo, Efraín Nieto.

“This terminal has assumed the leadership of the national airflow, of course, after the seismic contingency of last June 24. More than two thousand 500 people pass through these facilities a day, a figure that on the day of greatest congestion has registered peaks of up to four thousand 500 passengers a day,” he told the journalist's correspondent for Venezolana de Televisión (VTV), in Valencia.

At this airport, there are 52 weekly flights connecting Venezuela with four major international routes: Madrid, Bogotá, Panama and Havana. Soon, a flight to Portugal will be added, which will begin operations next Monday, July 13, between Valencia and Lisbon.

Regional aeronautical authorities redoubled their efforts to adapt and expand boarding halls and infrastructure to ensure a smooth experience. They also recommend that users of international departures strictly maintain the schedule of arriving 4 or 5 hours before their flight, which will avoid setbacks at security controls.

Finally, Nieto stated that this dynamic is part of the rebirth that has been established in the actions carried out by the national Government, while working to progressively resume, and according to the circumstances, the normality of operations in Venezuelan territory.
