Athlete Juan Soto won silver in Panama

Taekwondo player Juan Soto won the silver medal in the 63 kg division after declining 2-0 (10-0, 10-4) against Brazilian Gabriel Fonseca at the Combat Center of the Irving Saladino Sports City, Panama.

The bronze medal was shared by the Panamanian Andrés Lasso and the Chilean Pedro Fuenzalida.

Soto reached the final stage after demonstrating a high level in the previous stages. He comfortably dominated his first match 2-0 (16-10, 17-10) against Colombian Juan Naranjo. Later, he reached the semifinals after beating Argentinian Adriano Mazzanti 2-0 (16-4, 12-0) by a resounding 2-0 (16-4, 12-0).

In the semifinals, the Venezuelan struggled and came back from a match in which he started at a 0-2 disadvantage. The fight lasted until the sudden decision, where he finally beat Chile's Pedro Fuenzalida 3-2 (3-4, 8-10, 10-8, 3-3), according to the sports press.
