Attention! Riding a motorcycle requires only a second-degree license

After the controversy unleashed on social networks by an official of the Baruta Municipal Police, when asking a citizen for a special license to drive a high-cylinder motorcycle-type vehicle, the National Institute of Land Transportation (INTT) published an official statement clarifying the situation.

In this regard, it was explained that in Venezuela the current legislation establishes that, in order to drive this type of vehicle, it is necessary to carry a valid second-degree license, a document that must be processed with the INTT.

According to the Land Transport Act, in its article 67, it states that “to drive motorcycles, the person must carry a second-degree license, the same of two types: type A, is granted to people over 16 years of age and allowed to ride motorcycles up to 80 cubic centimeters; and type B, is for people over 18 years of age and authorized to drive any engine capacity”.

The statement, which was published by the president of the INTT, G/D Gabriel Aguana Rodríguez, on his account of the social network X, urges citizens not to fall into false information given by irresponsible officials who are unaware of the Law.

“These types of individual attitudes do not represent the vast majority of public security officials who are committed to protecting, defending and serving our people,” said Aguana Rodríguez.

It was also known that the official is currently subject to disciplinary proceedings for his actions and ignorance of the regulations.

“It is important to note that the INTT is deployed together with the security forces in the country's main Citizens' Service Points (PACs), to verify the validity and authenticity of the documents required to circulate, in order to guarantee road safety and compliance with traffic regulations,” reads the letter.
