Authorities restrict night passage on the Barinas—Mérida highway

Authorities from the states of Barinas and Mérida, in the presence of an edge fault in the El Celoso sector, activated a road contingency plan to prevent the highway from collapsing.

According to the regional press, the instability of the terrain, which compromises the road, has forced the implementation of a night closure of the road.

The restrictive measure will be in effect from 6:00 in the afternoon to 6:00 in the morning. During these 12 hours, traffic will be strictly prohibited for private and general cargo vehicles. However, specific exceptions were established to guarantee care in the area: the passage will be enabled only for emergency vehicles, security forces, minibus-type passenger transport units and cargo vehicles that carry only medicines and medical supplies.

To ensure compliance with this protocol, control points have been set up where access to heavy transport will be blocked in the La Cuchinilla sector, within the state of Barinas, and in the La Mitisus sector in the Las Piedras parish of the Cardenal Quintero municipality in the state of Mérida.

As for the daytime schedule, between 6:00 in the morning and 6:00 in the afternoon, traffic will be allowed, but subject to a rigorous control and supervision device.
