Bolivarian Government began planting and harvesting Mussel Seeds in Sucre state

The Minister of Popular Power for Science and Technology, Yván Gil, together with the aquaculture sector of the municipality of Bolívar, in the state of Sucre, witnessed the planting and harvesting of Mussel Seeds, an activity that reinforces marine aquaculture and enriches the Venezuelan diet.

“Thanks to science and technology, the Oriental mussel has an indigenous heated seed, bringing us closer to food sovereignty and opening up opportunities to expand production, even towards export. This experience is driven by the Turpialito Hydrobiological Station,” the minister wrote on his Telegram account.

In this regard, he thanked Governor Jhoanna Carrillo and the team from the Universidad de Oriente and the Oceanographic Institute of Venezuela, who have made possible this collaboration between the National and State Governments and local productive forces.

“So far, we have harvested more than 2,500 kg of excellent quality mussels and we plan to install a new seed breeding center in the Gulf of Paria to strengthen the capacities of producer families. The Bolivarian Government continues to unite science and technology with the knowledge of our people, generating new productive opportunities for the Sucre state,” said the minister.
