The Bolivarian Government, through the Ministry of Popular Power for Fisheries and Aquaculture and the Government of Nueva Esparta, formally issued 45 fishing permits to vessels in the large scale artisanal fleet, known locally as the pargomero fleet.

The event, led by Minister Juan Carlos Loyo, and Governor Marisel Velásquez, was held at the headquarters of the Integral Maritime and Insular Defense Region (Redimain), as part of the comprehensive plan ordered by the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, for the fishing and aquaculture sector.

The issuance of these permits includes the formation of a National Union of Fishermen and Aquaculturists, with representatives elected in assemblies in 142 municipalities in the country.

For her part, Governor Velásquez emphasized the symbol of sovereignty represented by authorization. “It is an important guarantee that governance continues in defense of national sovereignty,” he said.

During the meeting, a stable supply of gasoline was also guaranteed for the entity's fishing sector, a historic demand from seafarers.

At another event, held in the city of Santa Ana, the forthcoming start-up of two recovered fish processing plants with cold capacity was announced.
