This Thursday, May 14, authorities from the Ministry of People's Power for Transportation (MPPT) carried out a technical inspection of the slope stabilization work carried out between kilometers 5.2 and 6 of the Caracas-La Guaira Highway.

In this regard, Minister Jacqueline Faria, specified that the objective of the inspection is to guarantee a 100% safe route after the completion of these works, scheduled for this Friday, May 15.

He recalled that, after the detection of the danger of a large rock in the mountain next to the tracks, it was decided to carry out controlled destruction to avoid any risk. “For this reason, we ask for authorization to close this highway for two days: today from nine in the morning until three in the afternoon, and tomorrow (Friday), equally from nine to three in the afternoon,” he said.

He announced that the largest part of the rock has already been destroyed and it is estimated that this Friday the mission will end.

For their part, officials from Civil Protection (PC), Bolivarian National Police (PNB), Firefighters, Bolivarian National Guard (GNB) and other agencies protect drivers and vehicles that travel along the restricted road section, a space in which they established a counterflow channel.

The MPPT website offers constant evaluations along the highway with La Guaira. In addition, the status of this work is updated, requiring the partial closure of the road.
