More than 500 men were treated during the prostate cancer screening day that took place at the Comandante Hugo Chávez de Macuto Comprehensive Health Center in the state of La Guaira.

The day was carried out in an articulated work between the Mayor's Office of the Vargas Municipality and the Ministry of Popular Power for Health (MPPS).

Mayor José Manuel Suárez said that thanks to the new urology unit that was recently inaugurated in that medical center, it was possible to carry out the day.

“ Once any anomaly has been detected, we guarantee specialized studies such as cytoscopy and uroflowmetry, as well as comprehensive care through the urological and oncological route, ensuring timely responses in treatments and surgical interventions for those who need it,” said Suárez, an MPPS press review.

For her part, María Gabriela Mejías, one of the urologists participating in the activity, explained that the most common pathologies detected were obstructive prostatic growth, urinary tract infections and gallstone disease.

“Prostate cancer is asymptomatic in its early stages, and only an early diagnosis allows it to be successfully treated,” he said, while stressing the importance of having annual checkups starting at age 45.
