The Government of Carabobo State awarded, through the Carabobo Festivals Foundation and the Tourism Corporation, in coordination with the Mayor's Office of Puerto Cabello, awards to the patrimonial bearers of the Hammock Ball, who have kept alive this traditional event brought from Curaçao to Puerto Cabello, where its protection has been guaranteed from the San Millán neighborhood.

During the activity, the president of the Festivals Foundation, Germán Otero, together with the Single Tourism Authority, Alba Adrianza, and the mayor Juan Carlos Betancourt, awarded a plaque to Herman Villanueva, president of the group “Tambores de San Millán”.

“On behalf of Governor Rafael Lacava, we grant this well-deserved recognition. This legendary cultural manifestation endures over time and every year it fills the streets with a unique color in Venezuela,” said Otero.

He also highlighted that the community of San Millán is dedicated to preserving the Hammock Dance with total fidelity to its roots since its arrival on the Venezuelan coast more than a century and a half ago. In addition, he stressed that this administration complies with the guidelines of President Nicolás Maduro and the president in charge Delcy Rodríguez.

For his part, Herman Villanueva highlighted that this tribute motivates cultivators to celebrate a tradition that mobilizes thousands of people annually. “We are grateful for this recognition from the authorities, who support our culture and one of the last mortuary rites in America,” he said.
