As part of the 29th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), which is being held in Azerbaijan, the Minister of People's Power for Ecosocialism, Jousé Lorca, met with the Director General of the International Solar Alliance (ISA), Ajay Mathur.
During the meeting, both discussed the importance of Venezuela's active participation in this organization, which promotes the use of renewable energy, Lorca reported on his Instagram account.
In this regard, Lorca highlighted that Venezuela stands out as one of the countries most committed to training and technological development in solar energy.
“We are implementing photovoltaic projects that not only strengthen our electricity service, but also reflect the commitment of the government of President Nicolás Maduro and of our Sectorial Vice President of Public Works and Services, General in Chief, Jorge Márquez, to the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),” he added.
He indicated that Venezuela's geographical location makes it an ideal place for photovoltaic generation. “It is essential to diversify our energy sources to face the climate crisis and work together for a more sustainable future,” he said.
Currently, 80% of electricity generation in Venezuela comes from hydroelectric sources and photovoltaic projects are being developed with the objective of reaching 30% of the national generation, as indicated by the Deputy Minister for New Sources and Rational Use of Energy, Tania Masea.
