This Saturday, the Minister of Popular Power for Foreign Affairs, Yván Gil, reported on his Telegram channel about the activation of a special operation in the states of Zulia and Táchira to serve families displaced from Colombia, due to armed violence.

“The Bolivarian Government, on instructions from President Nicolás Maduro Moros, through Civil Protection, the mayors of Jesús María Semprún (Zulia) and García de Hevia (Táchira), has activated a special operation for the care of the civilian population displaced from Colombia, who are forced to escape the terrible armed violence that has plagued them,” Gil wrote.

He also stressed that Venezuela is “faithful to its commitment to brotherhood and solidarity with the Colombian people and government, it will always be willing to provide the required humanitarian support to the population recurrently affected by the scourge of war in the sister country.”

On Thursday, there were clashes between the National Liberation Army (ELN) and the dissidents of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), in the Catatumbo region, in the north of the country.

The action resulted in the announcement of the suspension of the Peace Dialogue by President Gustavo Petro with the ELN.

According to the Colombian Government, the clashes have so far left 40 fatalities, including former peace fighters and civilians.
